the Shoulder girdle

Anatomy

The shoulder girdle is comprised of bones, ligaments, muscle, and connective tissue, that all function to provide stability and enable shoulder motion. The shoulder is stabilized passively by structures of the joint capsule and shoulder ligaments, and is stabilized actively by the rotator cuff muscles (i.e. supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis). The contribution of passive and active stabilizers are fundamental in ensuring shoulder stability and enabling safe movement. Disruption of these stabilizers are the common cause of disfunction in the shoulder girdle.
